Rotary of Buford / North Gwinnett
The Rotary Club of
Buford / North Gwinnett was established
in 1994 and has grown
steadily since that time. Members of this dynamic Rotary chapter are
business and professional
leaders who take an active role in their communities. The club supports
numerous service projects, including:
The club is pleased to support Rotary International's efforts to
eradicate polio. PolioPlus, the most ambitious program in Rotarys
history, is the volunteer arm of the global partnership dedicated to
eradicating polio. For more than 20 years, Rotary has led the private
sector in the global effort to rid the world of this crippling disease.
Today, PolioPlus and its role in the initiative is recognized worldwide
as a model of public-private cooperation in pursuit of a humanitarian
goal. In addition to providing financial and volunteer support, Rotary
works to urge support from other public and private sector partners.
This includes the campaign to End Polio Now, inspired by the
extraordinary challenge grants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates
Foundation.
The Littlest Reader (helping the
Gwinnett County Public Library present new parents in the county with a
gift book and invitation to register for a free library card),
Santa's Helpers, where during the holiday season club
volunteers stand beside the Salvation Army's famous red buckets and ring
bells to raise funds for that organization,
Gwinnett Great Days of Service, where club members have assisted Buford Head Start by gathering for two days to plant seasonal
flowers, spread a little pine straw, and give the children's bathrooms a
fresh coat of brightly colored paint. In fact, the club has "adopted"
Buford Head Start and will be conducting projects with the school
throughout the year.
Water Pasteurization Project in partnership with the Interact
Club of North Gwinnett High School. This project involves the making
Water Pasteurization Indicators for use around the world where water is
contaminated, causing disease and death. These indicators are
effectively used with heat sources, and are becoming increasingly
important in parts of the world where forests and cooking fuel are
rapidly disappearing or cost prohibitive.
Many other projects in support of Buford Head Start, Gwinnett
Children's Shelter, Streetwise, Buford Senior Center, Toys for Tots,
local high school scholarship projects, and leadership development.
The club meets every Wednesday at noon at the Gwinnett Braves Stadium
Homeplate Club. The address is 2500 Buford Drive, Lawrenceville, GA
30043. The club officers, led by President Duane Champlin, invite you
for a visit and look forward to seeing you there!
